Dance Subfloors
A floating wood subfloor acts as a barrier between the concrete foundation and other hard surfaces. It is critically important for the safety of dancers and should be utilized in professional studios, performing arts centers, university dance settings and in any home environment where serious dancers work consistently.
Our Subflooring Systems
The subfloor solutions from StagestepTM are made for all movement activities, creating an environment that is safe and shock-absorbent.
Important factors determining the perfect subfloor are safety and performance. Stagestep meets these two factors in each of our floating subfloors by ensuring proper absorption of impact, safe return of energy, lateral food support as well as a quality design for stellar performance.
Subfloor Types
Stagestep has several dance subfloor options suited to different dance styles:
We have five SpringStep systems
Springstep
The SpringStep dance subfloor collection contains multipurpose floating wood subfloor systems suited for all dance activities. Stagestep has five systems available, with ranging uses and absorbancy, so you can select the subfloor that suits needs and budget. SpringStep is the only subfloor provider on the market that is customizable and transportable.
Springstep II: Build It
The Springstep II is a money-saving subfloor system. This dance subfloor system is a build it yourself, permanent and non-transportable floor. Stagestep provides the foam blocks and layout plan.
Springstep III: The Ballroom Alternative
SpringStep III is a floating wood subfloor primarily designed for ballroom dance. This subfloor greatly diminishes sound because of the sheet foam on the subfloor quieting every step.
SpringStep IV Plus: The Easy Subfloor
Our most popular multipurpose dance subfloor and is denser, harder and even more long lasting than SpringStep IV. Pre-fabricated OSB panels, with a tongue and groove connection system and high density foam forms. It can be used for permanent installations and is also easily disassembled to move to a new location and re-installed.
SpringStep V: The Touring Subfloor
SpringStep V is our newest portable sprung floor solution. Designed for touring, this subfloor is easily movable and portable, but it can be installed permanently. Made from Baltic birch, this is an easy assembly system with tight-fitting seams and allows for an acoustically vibrant sound.
SpringFlex Subfloor System
The SpringFlex basket weave dance subfloor is ideal for permanent installations and is best installed by a professional. Commonly paired with wood dance floors or with plywood, paired with a marely floor, it offers ideal sound amplification, absorption and resiliency levels. FAQ About Our Sprung Subfloor
What Is the Purpose of the Subfloor for Dance Studios?
A dance subfloor is a layer beneath the top flooring that cushions the dancer’s movements to minimize the impact. Dancing involves dramatic movements, such as jumping, where the dancer must shift their weight. Since some dance styles require shoes with minimal cushion, the impact from this motion will affect the dancer’s lower limbs and joints over time. A sprung subfloor from Stagestep has the right amount of cushion because it distributes the impact laterally, resulting in a soft landing that offers support and keeps dancers safe.
